animal welfare

we believe that having good animal welfare standards is an important part of our business. it is our responsibility to work with suppliers who are also committed to the highest sustainability standards with a focus on constantly looking at ways of improving best practices

all beef, chicken and pork supplied to wagamama must meet strict EU legislation and adhere to the principles of the farm animal welfare council (fawc) five freedoms for animal welfare

eggs at wagamama

all shell eggs are sourced from free-range hens, where the birds have an environment and space in excess of the legal requirement. wagamama has an additional global commitment to achieve 100% sourcing of all eggs and egg derivatives (to include shell eggs, liquid eggs, and egg products) from cage-free hens, and we have been working hard to meet this target, providing the birds with an environment beneficial to their welfare

a target date of 2025 was set to complete this work across all owned and franchised wagamama businesses. currently our UK wagamama sites source eggs (shell, liquid and egg products) which are 100% free range. across our franchised estate we are already 100% cage free in most of our european markets. in other markets we are 100% cage-free on shell and are on target to achieving this across liquid and by-products by the end of 2025. there are a small number of other international markets where achieving 100% cage-free eggs requires additional work due to more challenged local supply chains, and realistic targets will be updated as soon as possible

salmon at wagamama

sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at wagamama, including how we select, source from and work with our suppliers, which is why all salmon on our menu is sustainably sourced from scottish and norwegian fisheries that operate to the highest standards and do not use feed from west africa

each of the fisheries we source from share our commitment to sustainability and are accredited by GlobalG.A.P. the world’s leading standards for seafood farmed with care. these organisations set strict requirements for responsible seafood farming that require producers to farm with care for fish, the environment and the people on and around the farm

as a responsible brand we regularly ensure that all our suppliers adhere to wagamama’s strict sourcing requirements, we also make sure the highest standards are maintained by conducting routine audits and site visits to verify compliance, traceability and transparency

as part of our desire to source ingredients from the uk where feasible, we have taken the decision to switch the sourcing of all our salmon to scottish fisheries by the end of this year.  these fisheries also have the additional benefit of being RSPCA accredited

at wagamama we live by the japanese philosophy  ‘kaizen’ which means ‘continual improvement’. it inspires us to do better in all that we do, to make small positive choices every day for big change. continual improvement is paramount as we look to constantly expand our sustainability goals and achievements. the part we must play as a brand is extremely important and the small decisions and improvements we make every day can create big change.  and whilst progress takes time, it begins with all of us
